Overview
Let’s Get Creative!
Whether you’re picking up a pencil for the very first time or looking to level up your skills, our art classes are all about exploring, experimenting, and having fun. Students learn drawing, painting, and design basics while trying out different styles—from realistic to abstract, illustration to contemporary art.
Beginners start with the essentials like line work, shading, color mixing, and composition—but every lesson also includes something exciting, like creating a piece inspired by your favorite things or working on a personal project you’re proud of. We keep things fresh, creative, and tailored to each student’s interests, using a variety of materials along the way.
What’s the #1 reason to study art at Westchase Music School?
Our instructors are not only talented artists—they’re friendly, encouraging, and genuinely invested in getting to know each student (and their goals). Whether you’re a young artist just starting out, a teen building a portfolio, or an adult rediscovering your creative side, we’re here to help you grow and enjoy the process.
What styles of art can I explore?
A little bit of everything! Students can dive into realism, abstract art, illustration, and fine art while experimenting with drawing, painting, charcoal, mixed media, and more. If you have a style you love, we’ll help you develop it—and if you’re not sure yet, we’ll help you discover it.
How qualified are your woodwind instructors?
Our art instructors are graduates of respected institutions such as the University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, University of Tampa, and Florida State University. They bring real-world experience, creativity, and a passion for teaching into every class.
What will I learn from art classes at the Music School?
Students build a strong foundation in visual art by developing skills in drawing, shading, color theory, and composition —while also developing their own creative voice. Early lessons focus on observation and technique—learning how to accurately represent shapes, form, light, and perspective. As students’ progress, they explore a variety of materials and approaches, including painting, charcoal, and mixed media, while gaining an understanding of design principles such as balance, contrast, and proportion. More advanced students begin to refine their personal style, experiment with creative problem-solving, and create more complex, finished works. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on both technical skill and creative thinking, helping students grow as confident, well-rounded artists.
Do I need to purchase art supplies to get started?
Nope—just bring yourself to your first lesson! We’ve got everything you need to get started. As you continue, we recommend having a sketchbook, pencils, and an eraser for practicing at home. And if you already have a favorite medium, feel free to bring it along—we love seeing what inspires you.
