Orchestra Lessons

(Violin, Viola, Cello)

(ages four and up)

Overview

Our string teachers will help you develop correct technique, sound, and musicality that will enable you to play classical or any other style. The violin, viola, and cello are normally associated with classical and folk music, but our string teachers can teach every genre from pop to jazz! Our students spend time each week working on technical skills to improve their sound quality and intonation. But also have their favorite songs incorporated into the lessons so they learn how to play their favorite piece. Our violin, viola, and cello teachers, through their care and expertise, will certainly nurture any student’s love of the instrument.

What’s the #1 reason to study violin, viola, or cello at Westchase Music School?

Our violin, viola, and cello instructors are warm, friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student’s favorite type of music. Whether you’re playing in an orchestra, a seven-year-old taking their first lesson, or a fifty-year-old returning to the violin after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

‍What styles of violin, viola, and cello do you teach?

We teach all styles from classical, rock, pop, jazz, country, and blues.

How qualified are your violin, viola, and cello instructors?

Our orchestral string faculty have received their musical education from such prestigious institutions as New York University, Indiana University, the Berklee College of Music, Oxford University, the University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, University of Tampa, Florida State University, Rollins College, and Stetson University. Many have toured the US and Europe, and bring over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons.

What will I learn from orchestral string lessons at the Music School?

Our students spend time each week working on technical skills to improve their sound quality and intonation, but also have their favorite songs incorporated into the lessons so they finish with their favorite piece. Our string teachers, through their care and expertise, will certainly nurture any student’s love for their instrument.

Do I need to purchase a violin, viola, or cello to learn the instrument?

It is not necessary to purchase initially. Often, students try out a violin, viola, and cello, and either decide they want to switch to one of the other stringed instruments, or have a size increase. Instead of purchasing an instrument (which can be more expensive than most instruments), consider a “rent-to-own” program. This way, you are paying towards owning your instrument, but can stop the rental at any time, or exchange for a different instrument. Also, we recommend avoiding cheap instruments made in China that are usually sold on Amazon. These instruments reportedly give problems with tuning and long term maintenance.
